St. Luke's Episcopal Church of Phillipsburg, New Jersey
A parish family that WORSHIPS God, CARES for one another and HELPS those in need in the community and beyond

"Helping to keep families together during diffficult financial times in Warren County."

Family Promise of Warren County is an amazing ministry. It's a county-wide non-profit, which is based on a national model of helping families who would otherwise be homeless to:

  • Stay intact, rather than be separated through foster care arrangements
  • Have safe places (usually churches) to stay one week at a time
  • Have a "home base" in Oxford from which the parents can learn new skills, apply for work, file time-sensitive forms, etc.
  • Retain one's self-confidence and dignity while going through the turmoil of financial insecurity.
  • Help the families to move from this help to self-sufficiency in a new job and apartment, which they accomplish on their own usually in an average period of 3-4 months!

It is done to help those in need and it's handled without regard to race, creed, religion and so on. All of God's children are the recipients of Grace, and through participating in Family Promise, we help to do the work of God with our hands and labor.

In May 2010, St. Luke's began participating as a HOST CHURCH, which is the more active of the two ways to support (Host and Support), although both are very valuable efforts in the success of Family Promise. Since that time, we have hosted families one week every 3 months, and we are so honored to provide this outreach.

Our next host week is Sunday, May 8th (evening) through Sunday, May 15th (morning).

Volunteers can help by:
a) Cook meals in our kitchen (usually, meals are served at 5pm and cooks eat with the guests and leave by 8pm)
b) Stay Overnight in pairs during the host week in case of an emergency (come at 8pm, sleep in Parish Hall with a partner while guests sleep in adjacent building (for their privacy and yours).

Volunteering is easy and it gives back in so many ways.

To sign up for this wonderful outreach, or to get more information, please contact Amy Zebrowski at church.
